Introduction

Cambridge and North Dumfries families of children with critical illness often have to make decisions no one should have to make at a time when all emotional resources should be spent caring for their sick child.

Most often those families, who are lucky enough to have them, rely on the concern of their relatives, friends and co-workers to initiate community fundraising so that they may be spared the additional duress.

The Fallen Sparrows Fund is a fund created to provide financial assistance for expenses, which are not otherwise covered by governmental agencies, to Cambridge and North Dumfries families with critically ill children. The Fund is not for the purpose of providing assistance to families of children in need of organ transplants as other Foundations provide funds for that purpose. The Fund allows for people to donate in the community spirit, monies to be directed in the form of grants to families in need of such financial assistance who in turn will receive charitable receipts for their donations.

Vision

The Kiwanis Club of Cambridge envisions a community where no child goes without the loving support and care of their family during a time of critical illness and no family has to choose between a sick child and economic issues; a community nurtured by the belief that physical health goes hand in hand with emotional health.

Purpose

Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. In keeping with Kiwanis International’s mission “to serve the children of the world”, the purpose of the fund provides for the Kiwanis Club of Cambridge to change the world, one child and one community at a time.
